Trends are bullshit.
That's it. That's the tweet.
Don't get me wrong, I like to know what's 'in or out' and I do hop on the bandwagon from time to time, but why do we go completely out of our way to do what the masses tell us is cool?
I watched a literal herd of teenage girls walk into Target last week, all in the exact same outfit. Did not a single one of them look in their closet and see an article of clothing that may make them feel equally as good as an oversized flannel and dirty Air Forces??? THE outfit usually changes with the season, but you can bet your life savings on the fact that at least 75% of the girls in your city will have on the exact same thing because it's been deemed trendy.
Dress in what makes you feel good. Color your hair whatever color makes YOU FEEL GOOD. If that means dressing like an early 2000s bimbo, by all means. You wanna step out today looking like Amy Winehouse?
Who's stopping you, besides... you?
I'll out myself here by saying I LOVE flared square nails. Sue me. I'd sit down in the nail salon and ask for "boxy square" and the tech would always be sure to tell me that nobody got that shape anymore, but I liked it and I didn't care. Imagine if you had a favorite sweater hanging in your closet that you refused to wear just because it was off trend. A sweater that brought you pure joy and made you feel like a million bucks, just hanging there, because you're scared to be yourself. That's no way to live.
Get up in the morning and be exactly who you are. Be exactly who you want to be, and see what that does for your confidence.
Trends are made up bullshit anyway.
